Oamaru’s next big solo artist, duet or band may be discovered at the Battle of the Bands at the Loan & Merc tonight.
The Battle of the Bands has come about following the recent announcement that Kiwi band Moorhouse will be headlining the Ote Festival, which is being held in Otematata over Labour Weekend.
The winner of tonight’s competition will get to open for Moorhouse, who made it to the top four on New Zealand’s X Factor last year.
So far, there are a several acts competing on the night and Oamaru Licensing Trust marketing manager Jessie Waite said she’d love to see more.
“We have some entries so far, but we’d love to see more. They can be dance groups if they like.
“Not only will the event be a great night out, it’s a fantastic opportunity for local acts to showcase their talent and potentially open for Moorhouse. Local bands and dancers would be silly not to enter.”
The public are urged to come down and watch the performances.
“We also need the community to come down and support our local talent. There’s going to be live music and performances, so it will be a good night out, but we need the community to support it,” Miss Waite said.
One band definitely competing is Kudos, who missed out on the People’s Choice Award for the Smokefree Rockquest, and will be looking to play a couple of their new songs.
