The opening of the Time Travellers Experience is a dream come true for Stephen Murray.
The exhibition consists of more than 3000 items, which have been collected over the past 20 years.
Inspired by steampunk, many of the items are sci-fi related, including a time traveller’s machine, which Mr Murray constructed himself in 2000 hours.
“It’s bloody awesome,” he said.
“I’m making my dream a reality.”
Over the past two weeks, Mr Murray has been spending on average 12 to 14 hours on the exhibition to ensure it is finished in time for its opening day on October 8.
Mr Murray and his wife Christine moved to Oamaru from Canterbury in May.
“We love it here,” he said.
He believes the public will respond positively to the exhibition.
“We’ve had it set up in a smaller scale in Oxford (Canterbury) and we already know from the visitors’ book and comments that we had an enthusiastic response,” he said.
Within the exhibition, there are film posters, pinball machines, a steampunk santa cave, Star Trek and Star Wars memorabilia.
“I just love film posters,” said Mr Murray.
“I love the art work.”
Mr Murray hopes locals will visit the exhibition regularly.
The exhibition is located above the Woolstore on Tyne St.
