A former South African mayor turned hypnotist will be returning to Oamaru this week for a show filled with mind power and comedy.
Auckland-based comedy stage hypnotist Dave Upfold will perform at the Brydone Hotel on Friday evening after a five-year gap from his last performance in Oamaru.
Mr Upfold, who was a mayor in South Africa in the 1990s, said he was looking forward to performing again in Oamaru, as five years would have brought a lot of change.
“In five years, people change, shows change and the humour’s changed.”
Comedy hypnotism aimed to have the audience falling off their chair with laughter at the things his subjects believed, he said.
Some believed they had won the lotto, could read minds, or were meeting Katy Perry, however he would never do anything to hurt, harm or embarrass anybody, Mr Upfold said.
“It’s all about having fun and making people believe amazing things.”
The show will be held at the Brydone Hotel at 8pm on Friday, July 11.
Doors open at 7.30pm and tickets are available from the Brydone Hotel reception for $25.
