DJ dials out and tunes into Timaru

Classic Hits breakfast host Sam Wilson will sign off the Waitaki airwaves for the last time on Friday morning.

As of Monday, he will be based in Timaru as Classic Hits South Canterbury’s new breakfast host.

For the last 18 months, Waitakians have been waking up to Wilson’s voice and he said he’s grown so much as a broadcaster in that time.

“When I got here I thought great, I’m heading to the home of steampunk and that’s all I knew,” he said.

“But getting to know the locals and getting to know what makes Oamaru tick makes you realise that it’s actually quite a special wee town and I think that’s been recognised by things like Seven Sharp’s Sharpest Town and how people banded together when we had the floods.”
