Oamaru author P.D.R. Lindsay-Salmon has organised for the marketing director of the largest distributor of self-published ebooks to talk at the Oamaru Public Library tomorrow evening.
Jim Azevedo, from Smashwords, will be doing a tour of the South Island to talk about self-publishing ebooks.
Ms Lindsay-Salmon, who co-ordinated the South Island tour, said Mr Azevedo would be talking about the benefits of publishing online through ebooks in plain English so anyone could understand him.
“He’s a lovely man.”
A lot of people in New Zealand write books, get them published locally and do not sell many copies because they needed to get into a bigger market, such as USA or UK, which they could do via ebooks, she said.
“It’s just a new world in New Zealand that you’ve got to get your head around.”
People in Oamaru needed to understand that although proper books were good at times they were not as convenient as ebooks, Ms Lindsay-Salmon said.
“Ebooks are amazingly useful.
“People have got to start thinking that way.”
The event was organised after Ms Lindsay-Salmon asked Mr Azevedo, who had been talking in Australia and Auckland at several romance writers events, if he would tour the South Island after this.
The free Oamaru talk will be held at the Oamaru Public Library on Thursday, August 21 at 6pm with a chance to ask questions after.
