Exhibition showcases historic North Otago fires

The history of fires in Oamaru and North Otago are being showcased in a new temporary exhibition at the North Otago Museum, which runs until January 31 next year. .

The exhibition tells the stories of fires in North Otago, including the 1969 Farmers’ Fire and the fatal fire at the Queens Hotel in 1880.

It also showcases how important fire was in the Victorian era.

Museum Curator Chloe Searle said the exhibition includes photographs and film footage of local fires and also displays items of domestic technology related to fire.
