Locals will soon have the chance to try and make the big time when the X Factor show returns to New Zealand, although no auditions will be held in Oamaru.
Auditions are scheduled to take place throughout the country from October 11, with the closest being sessions in Dunedin on October 15 at Forsyth Barr Stadium and in Christchurch on October 16 and 17 at the New Zealand Institute of Sport campus.
This year’s auditions allow bands, as well as individuals, to compete – news which initially excited local band Kudos.
However, Kudos manager Sara Martin said the band had yet to decide whether or not they would take part as Kudos exceeds the limit of band members.
“When we heard it was returning and including bands, we thought, ‘This is awesome, we will definitely have a go’, but we found out the maximum number of members a band can have is five, so we are unsure at this stage.”
“We might ask and see if we can get an exemption to let us compete. We’re really not sure,” Mrs Martin said.
The band is hoping to win the People’s Choice Award for the National Smokefree Rockquest Finals, for which voting ends on September 12.
