Local band to play a very special gig

Oamaru band Special Neadz are making a comeback and have a major announcement to make at their upcoming gig.

After taking a break, the band, which is made up of Ben Blair, Tony McCarthy and Dreadz, are opening for New Zealand metal band 8 Foot Sativa next Friday at the Penguin Club.

The band, which is influenced by such acts as Korn, Metallica and Tool, will be renaming their group. The new name will be announced at the gig.

Blair said the band was heading in a different direction with their music, including using an eight-string guitar.

He said the eight-string produced a meaty sound that allowed the audience to groove.

The band have previously won the South Island Battle of the Bands.

Special Neadz performs only original songs and Blair said you won’t hear Sweet Home Alabama.

The band has a local following and Blair said it would be good to see some of the old faces at the gig.
