A registered nurse and long-time member of the Oamaru Repertory Society is in the process of directing her first full play.
Glynis Kappely is directing the society’s next production, Play On!, which will be performed in November.
Mrs Kappely, who has directed a one-act show and acted in several plays, said directing was an enjoyable but challenging experience.
There were many different aspects involved in putting on a play that most people would not think of, she said.
“It’s the total organisation of putting it together.”
The auditions were held earlier this month and Mrs Kappely has found a cast of 10, with a mix of experienced and new actors.
“That’s really exciting,” she said.
It was also nice for the society to have new people come and direct, Mrs Kappley said.
“Because I have acted, I was encouraged to do some directing.”
The production is a comedy about a group of actors who are trying to rehearse a play but the author keeps changing it.
“It’s a play within a play.
“It’s a funny play and in fact, the first night we read it through, we spent the whole time laughing.”
Mrs Kappely’s involvement with the Oamaru Repertory Society began after going to a play when she moved here more than 30 years ago.
The play, written by Rick Abbot, will be performed at the Oamaru Repertory Theatre from November 12-16.
