Parade float ‘product of hard work’

Nights spent building Barnardos’ Santa parade float paid off on Tuesday when the childcare centre was awarded a $250 prize for coming first-equal with the Waitaki Recreation Centre in the parade’s best community float competition.

The staff and children were awarded a supermarket voucher yesterday by Waitaki District Santa Parade organiser Anton Roswell.

Barnardos teacher Janine Presnall said everyone was “really thrilled” at receiving the prize.

There had been three evening working bees held to build the float in time for the parade, she said.

The supermarket voucher would be used to fill the cupboards at the centre, she said.

Santa parade organiser Anton Roswell said their float was the product of hard work from the community and the children.

They deserved their prize, he said.
