Restaurant provides meals for movie stars

An Oamaru restaurant was asked to provide meals for a couple of well-known movie stars and their crew who are in New Zealand to film a movie.

Rachel Weisz and Michael Fassbender were on a steam train with about 110 people who were in the Hampden/Herbert area to film the movie The Light Between Oceans.

The Last Post in Oamaru were asked to cater for the film stars.

“We were called on the Thursday and told what we had to cook them. It was quite a bit of work, but we are really happy with how it panned out,” Last Post co-owner Nicola Arney said.

They had to have the meals at Hampden by 8:15pm on the Saturday night for the train, which was meeting them there.

The train was meant to come all the way through to Oamaru, but the route was changed and they turned around at Herbert, where they were fed.

Heather Ormandy, who is also a co-owner, said they provided a variety of hot and cold food.

They never managed to see Michael Fassbender, but did catch a glimpse of Rachel Weisz.

“She is very pretty,” Mrs Arney said.

Weisz’s husband, Daniel Craig, best known for playing James Bond, has also been in New Zealand and the pair were recently spotted in Dunedin.

Last Post was asked to cater for them on the back of their reputation, something which pleased both owners.

“It’s pleasing to see we are being recognised as a catering business as well as a restaurant,” Mrs Arney said.

Both owners said the service they gave to the film crew was no different to what they give to anybody else.
