The Oamaru Licensing Trust held a successful conference over the weekend, chairman Ali Brosnan said.
The trust hosted the National Licensing Trust Association’s annual conference on Saturday with 100 delegates coming from licensing trusts around the country.
Mr Brosnan said he could not give any details of the conference as it was confidential, however it went really well.
“There’ll be ongoing contact from this conference within the trust network.”
One thing he took from the conference was that on-licensed premises alcohol sales in New Zealand were under real pressure and many of the trusts were battling to deal with issues surrounding that.
But Oamaru with its food and accommodation had not had the same issues, he said.
The weekend was also a chance to show members of other trusts what Oamaru could offer with drinks and nibbles at the Oamaru Opera House, presentations from local food businesses, and a dinner at Northstar Restaurant and Bar.
“The people were really impressed.”
Partners of the delegates also did some retail therapy around the town which helped the town’s economy, he said.
