Vincent Lim and his wife, Mao, are the new owners of the Fields Glenavy Store.
Mr Lim, originally from Taiwan, arrived from China two weeks ago and is settling in to life in the busy Glenavy township. He previously engineered computer software and also ran an import/export business in China.
Mr Lim said his brother, who used to travel regularly between Invercargill and Christchurch, alerted him to the sale of the store and now he is looking forward to growing the business with the help of a chef from Hamilton who he said “is very good at cooking”.
Between them, the pair plan to serve Asian meals, have longer opening hours and perhaps extend the seated area.
“To do this, though, I need some new equipment, a new oven and resource consent from council, so it will take time,” he said.
In the meantime, it is business as usual.
