Over the past 12 months, the Oamaru Mail has continued to grow its readership against the trends of most other daily newspapers in New Zealand, according to the recently released Nielsen Consumer and Media Insights “Newspaper Provincial Newspaper Topline Results” for the quarter ending June 2013.

In North Otago, the Oamaru Mail’s average daily readership has grown by 14 per cent, while that of the Otago Daily Times has fallen by 10 per cent. Across a week, the Oamaru Mail is now the best read daily newspaper in the local market.

Oamaru Mail general manager Tony Nielsen would like to thank readers who are continually engaging with our paper.

“Oamaru people care about our town and want to be connected daily with the issues. Our paper does this well,” he said.

Our editor Megan Gnad, and our reporters, Jacquie Webby, Rebecca Ryan, Jessie Waite and James Ford, are thrilled with the result.

The Oamaru Mail is a must-read for North Otago every day. Pier and Charlotte Smulders, the paper’s new owners, said that this readership results confirmed their belief in the paper and its ability to connect neighbours and communities within Oamaru and North Otago.
