The North Otago Yacht and Power Boat Club held a successful launch of their new boat at the weekend.

The club purchased a new boat to help attract more juniors to join the club and give yachting a go.

North Otago Yacht and Power Club sailing club captain Graeme Thorn said the launch of the new boat was very successful.

“Yeah, it was a very good launch of the boat. Unfortunately the weather wasn’t the best, but we got the boat out there on the water and people were able to comfortably have have a ride around on it.”

He is thankful for the support the club received to be able to purchase the new boat.

“We are just overwhelmed with the amount of support we had to get a new boat. We really want to thank our sponsors and everyone loves it.”

Mayor Gary Kircher also popped along to see the new boat officially launched.

“It was really pleasing to see the mayor come along and see the new boat launched.”

The boat is 5.2m long, much bigger than the old 3.6m boat.
