Bringing home the bacon for hospice

Hundreds of people competed in the inaugural Boar ‘n’ Stag Muster held over the weekend to raise funds for the North Otago Hospice.

The event kicked off on Friday morning at 6am and weigh-in took place at the Loan and Merc from 1-3pm on Sunday. The prize-giving was at 3.30pm, with more than $25,000 in prizes up for grabs.

One of the organisers, Craig Gibb, said they received 328 entries for the muster and hundreds of people turned out to see the weigh-in on Sunday.

“It was a great success.”

It was nice to see so much support for the hospice and he hoped they would do it again next year, he said.

“It definitely exceeded expectations.”

Another organiser, Sally-Ann Donnelly, said it was an “amazing” event and she loved being part of it.

The amount raised is still to be confirmed.
