Stand by for a big afternoon of entertainment at the annual Anzac Day concert at Waitaki Boys’ High School.
Organiser Allan Portis is making final preparations for the concert.
It started four years ago, while Waitaki Boys’ was going through a rocky patch, and Mr Portis wanted to do something to emphasise the pride old boys had in the school.
“I thought it was important that we strengthen the bond between town and school,” he said.
“There are people in this town who have never been to Waitaki Boys’, or who have never seen the Hall of Memories and have no idea that such a thing exists.”
Leading performers at the concert will include soprano Hannah Pearson and her partner, tenor Antonio Della Barca.
The Bernard Sisters, trumpeter Ralph Miller and piano/organ accompanist June Cameron will perform favourites from the 1950s.
“We’re upping our game every year,” Mr Portis said.
“We’re doing our best to provide a high-specification concert.”
The concert starts in the Hall of Memories at 1.30pm on Anzac Day. Admission is free, and afternoon tea is provided.
