Kurow woman Jane Crashley has made a lifetime wish come true.

After months of hard work and determination, she was proud to open the doors of Wild Sage Cafe to the public.

The business had its official opening last Friday with crowds of customers lining up to try out the new food joint.

Since its opening, the cafe had been well received by the public, she said.

Previously, the business operated as The Valley Cafe.

“It’s pretty much a starting venture – taking on the building and giving it a new lease of life.”

A former chef and once a practising nurse, Ms Crashley decided earlier in the year she wanted to restart her career in food and hospitality.

At about the same time, she saw the lease for the business was available and decided it was the perfect opportunity to get back in the industry.

“I just had this feeling in my chest,” she said.

She told her daughter, Charlie Anderson, about her plans, and her daughter replied: “Go for it”.

Listening to her daughter’s words, she decided to seize the opportunity.

Renovating the cafe became a joint venture between Ms Crashley’s family and the Kurow community, she said.

“There was nothing to take apart, but there was plenty to put in.”

Ms Crashley’s partner, Andy Armour, built and installed furniture, while her brother travelled from the West Coast to paint the building.

Even members of the Kurow volunteer fire brigade came to lend a helping hand.

“Everybody that’s worked on this has seen that it is a labour of love,” she said.

Ms Anderson said the real satisfaction for her came on the opening night.

“Opening the cafe and seeing it work and function as a cafe was fantastic. It’s definitely got a very homely feel to it,” she said.

“I think we were running on auto pilot at that point. We were pretty exhausted but we made it happen.”

While she was not a fortune teller, Ms Crashley believed the cafe had a bright future ahead.bridgemediaKamala Harris’ Stepdaughter Ella Emhoff Wows in Coat at Inauguration News
