An Oamaru family is raising funds for a friend facing a heart transplant.
On September 24, from noon to 4pm, Richard, Christel, Jan and Judy Vinbrux, from Vinbrux Kaffeehaus in Arun St, are running a special event called “Kaffeeklatsch for Ange”. Kaffeeklatsch is a German word that translates as “talk over coffee”.
They will provide four large cakes, donating the proceeds from each serving.
They will also add $1 from each cup of coffee sold after lunch.
Richard Vinbrux said if everything sold and there were plenty of patrons drinking coffee, the event should raise about $500.
The funds would help with costs being incurred by Oamaru woman Angela Beesley-MacKenzie, who is waiting for a heart transplant. She is going through the early stages of preparation to have the operation in Auckland.
Her husband, James MacKenzie, said the Vinbruxes’ initiative was “very generous and wonderful”.
“Humbled would be an understatement.”
Mr MacKenzie hoped to be able to help out at the Kaffeehaus on Thursday afternoon.
