Mamma Mia! It’s going to be a massive show at the Oamaru Opera House next month. In the build-up to the major production by Musical Theatre Oamaru, the Oamaru Mail is introducing you to the 12 leading cast members, two by two. Today we present the third pair.
Performer: David Blair
Stage character: Bill, the yachtie who is one of the prospective dads.
Occupation: Waitaki District Council systems administrator.
Experience: I did my first show in 1982. They’ve all been here, in Oamaru. I just like being in shows. I don’t consider myself a strong singer and I’m getting past too much dancing. I enjoy developing a character.
If you entered New Zealand’s Got Talent, what would you do?I’d clap for the people on stage, because I wouldn’t do it!
Performer: Sonya Creedy
Stage character: Rosie, from “Donna & the Dynamos”.
Occupation: Primary schoolteacher, currently relieving at kindergartens and other schools.
Experience:My first big stage show was in Invercargill at the age of 12, in the children’s chorus of Evita. I took time off having children. I’ve done singing training (soprano). Being in productions is awesome; I love it. I love being part of a show, with the camaraderie, and the big sound you can get. I sang for my dad for his 50th birthday. We’ve done shows together, down south.
If you entered New Zealand’s Got Talent, what would you perform? I really like at the moment the song from Jekyll & Hyde, “Someone Like You”.
