Meet the ‘Mamma Mia’ cast

Mamma Mia! It’s going to be a massive show at the Oamaru Opera House next month. In the build-up to the major production by Musical Theatre Oamaru, the Oamaru Mail is introducing you to the 12 leading cast members, two by two. Today we present the fifth pair.

Performer: Mark Kennard.
Character’s name: Sam.

Mark Kennard.

Occupation: Real estate agent at LJ Hooker Oamaru.
Experience: I have no experience in musical theatre. Melissa (Yockney, work colleague and MTO stalwart) talked me into it. I didn’t really think I would get chosen. At the start, it’s bound to be a bit terrifying. I’ve done no singing since school. I moved here in 2011 as a Christchurch earthquake refugee.
If you entered New Zealand’s Got Talent, what would you perform? Pretty Vegas. It’s my favourite song. I sang it for one of the auditions for Mamma Mia!

Performer: Ben Hayward
Character’s name: Sky.

Ben Hayward.

Occupation: Bayfield High School year 12 pupil.
Experience: I’ve been in three Musical Theatre Dunedin shows – Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, West End Broadway, and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, three Bayfield shows – Greaseas Danny Zuko, Anything Goes as Lord Evelyn Oakleigh, and Footloose, and Taieri Musical’s Grease – The Arena Spectacular. I play the guitar and sing in an acoustic duo and a rock band.
If you entered New Zealand’s Got Talent, what would you perform? I would sing and play a song that I wrote with my friend.Nike shoesnike fashion
