The relocation of the Gentle Exercise Group from the RSA to the Orwell St Church has been a success.

Group members have been doing their exercises at the church for two weeks and numbers have improved since the move.

“This is the biggest group we’ve ever had,” Sport Waitaki sport and recreation co-ordinator Kate Holland said.

“There’s about 70 elderly people who are here today; we didn’t have enough equipment.”

Despite being told by the Mayor that their home at the RSA was safe, general uncertainty meant they felt it was best to find a new premises.

The new location was superb and the people were a fantastic help, Miss Holland said.

Age Concern North Otago immediate past president Heather McElroy said the new facility was superb.

“It’s fantastic and people have kept turning up.”

“We’re really pleased to have found this place; the kitchen area is just superb.”
