Oamaru to hold fundraiser for Congolese school

Three Oamaruvians are holding a garage sale to help raise funds for a Congolese school.

Bev Schellew, Glenys McLay and Una Lewthwaite came up with the idea of raising $1000 to buy a year-long curriculum for a school in the Congo.

Orwell St Church office administrator Carolyn Adams suggested they hold a garage sale and said she was confident they could raise the funds required.

“We aren’t after a lot of money, just enough to help these ladies make a change to a school in the Congo.”

Bev Schellew said the group came up with the idea after deciding they wanted to help people in need.

“The Stevensos have been doing work over there for at least 30 years and they have made a huge difference. We just wanted to give them a bit of a hand,” Mrs Schellews said.

They are welcoming any donations, which can be made by ringing the Orwell St Church on 03 434 6168. A pick-up or drop-off can be organised.

The garage sale is being held at the Orwell St Church in the Youth Hall and will begin at 8am on August 2.
