Iona Home and Hospital residents received some special gifts on Friday, pictures of themselves.
About 27 Oamaru Intermediate School pupils were buddied up with an elderly person and interviewed them before taking there photo and returning to school and drawing them over a four week period.
Learning about their elderly person was something the children really enjoyed, and Oamaru Intermediate teacher Sue McLean said it was a lot of fun.
“The pupils loved it, they really enjoyed drawing their elderly person and obviously interviewing them.”
The pupils favourite part was the presenting of the pictures to their elderly person.
“They all just loved the reaction of their elderly resident when they showed them the finished product they were blown away.”
Iona Home and Hospital resident Maytal Moynihan was pleased with her drawing.
“It’s fantastic isn’t it, she has done a beautiful job with the picture, and I loved getting to know her.”
Eva Alofi said it was great fun getting to know Mrs Moynihan.
‘She was really funny and a lot of fun to interview, and I’m glad she likes my drawing.”
The picture were hung on the wall at Iona Home and Hospital for caregivers and residents to see.
