Selfies are in fashion right now and the Oamaru Public Library is holding a competition for kids who enjoy taking a snap.
The competition is being held from August 4-8.
Library assistant for social media, Julia de Ruiter, said the competition was about raising children’s awareness of the library.
“We want to encourage more and more children to come to the library and we thought with selfies such a modern part of technology today, they were a great way to get people to the library.”
Miss de Ruiter said running a competition through social media was a good way to attract readers and came up with the idea after reading about a similar contest that was run at a library in New York.
“I saw it online and thought it was a fantastic way to promote the library, with social media being so popular,” she said.
Competition entrants need to take their selfie in the library and are then required to upload the photo to the Waitaki District Libraries Facebook page, with the hashtag #Oamarulibraryselfie.
All entrants receive a prize and there will be an overall winner for best selfie.
