Oamaru is about to get another place to work out.
Snap Fitness will open its Oamaru premises on Dee St this month and will cover an area of 600sq m, making it one of the largest Snap Fitness centres in the country.
It will join Oamaru’s other gyms, Fitness24, Harbourside and the Waitaki Community Recreation Centre.
Snap Fitness Oamaru manager Andrew Allardice said the company was excited about opening an Oamaru base.
“There are a lot of good sports teams here and a good mix of older and younger people we want to get healthy.”The gym will be open for members 24 hours a day, and offer group and individual options and classes.
One feature is a interactive programme, Fitness on Demand, which allows a user to select from one of 100 different exercises.
Mr Allardice said the programme could create a virtual image _ he used cycling around the streets of Ireland as an example _ while it also kept track of how an individual’s workout was going.
Snap Fitness also used a piece of technology named My Zone, similar to Fitbit, which was able to display workout statistics on screen.
“We have tried to cater the gym to cater for the Oamaru community. We’ve made it a little different to the normal Snap model. We’ve got a power-lifting station with bumper plates and various pin-loaded machines.”About 260 subscriptions have been sold so far. Snap Fitness Oamaru will officially open on April 30.
