The Five Forks Foothills Trail Ride is taking in new terrain next weekend.
Formerly known as the Kakanui Trail Ride, the event was moved to a new location and given a new name in recent years.
The network of new tracks, covering more than 45km through about six properties in the Five Forks foothills, ranges from easy sections “for the little ones” and gentle slopes for families to challenging tussock country for intermediate riders and advanced sections for experienced riders.
Five Forks School principal Belinda Brosnan said it was the school’s major fundraiser of the year and it was well supported by the wider community.
“It also supports the Five Forks Hall and other community events,” Mrs Brosnan said.
“It’s great to have that annual fundraiser contribute a significant amount to give back to the school, because the school is the community.”
In its 12th year, the event attracted riders from around the South Island, many making a weekend of it in the Waitaki district, Mrs Brosnan said.
“There’s great food, great company, great tracks – and, of course, it’s heaps of fun,” she said.
The Five Forks Foothills Trail Ride is being held from March 2 to 3.
Pre-registrations are now open, and close on Sunday, February 24.
