Family calls for govt action

The grieving family of Ruby Marris say the Government need to regulate the hiring and licensing of all rental vehicles to overseas tourists.

Jing Cao, 32, of China, was sentenced in the Dunedin District Court to 18 months jail on Tuesday after he was found guilty of causing the death of Ruby Jay Marris, 5.

On February 21, Cao’s rented vehicle, a Ford Ranger, crossed the centre line on State Highway 1 near Moeraki and struck the Marris family’s vehicle.
