A 20-year-old Oamaru man was sentenced to five years and nine months’ imprisonment for manslaughter at the Timaru High Court on Friday.
Daniel Ethan Smith, 20, was sentenced by Justice Rachel Dunningham after being found guilty, in July, of the manslaughter of 16-year-old William Lewis in 2010.
Smith was found guilty of manslaughter, not murder, on Wednesday, July 23, after a retrial was held in front of a jury of six men and six women.
Lewis was stabbed in the back three times following an altercation with Smith (then aged 16) on Exe St at about 9.45pm on April 1, 2010.
Smith had previously been sentenced to life imprisonment after being found guilty of murder in 2011.
