The Ministry of Justice has spent a significant sum of money on court services in Oamaru since the old courthouse was closed in 2011.
The 132-year-old courthouse was shut on November 30, 2011, due to earthquake risk, after an assessment showed it did not meet 33% of the new building standards.
Court hearings operated out of the Oamaru Opera House for two years before being moved to a temporary facility on Humber St in August 2014.
