Waitaki Girls’ High School presented the 17 girls who will lead their school in 2014 with leadership badges at a ceremony at the school on Wednesday.
WGHS principal Tracy Walker said the ceremony saw a great batch of girls democratically elected to leadership positions in the school.
The 17 school leaders included the head girl, Irihapeta Smith, the deputy head girl, Gabi Napier, head boarder Sian Horn, student representative Mikaela Young, various school captains and more.
Ms Walker said the girls were read the school’s leadership oath, then she gave them a speech about leadership, complete with a quote from Bill Gates.
“I thought that was appropriate.”
A leadership camp would be held later in the month for the school’s new leaders, she said.
