Children’s book’s award draws protest

About 20 protesters gathered in Oamaru on Friday, calling for New Zealand Post to withdraw the Children’s Book Award given to Ted Dawe’s teen novel Into the River.

They have concerns over the sexually explicit content of the novel that picked up the top prize at this year’s New Zealand Post Children’s Book Awards, describing it as “pornographic”.
