Students who have not yet applied for their 2014 student loan or allowance are at risk of not getting them sorted before starting study, Waitaki MP Jacqui Dean says.
Mrs Dean said Studylink had worked hard to ensure students did not leave applications to the last minute and had urged students to apply by December 16.
Studylink has sent about 570,000 emails, text messages, used social media, printed material and supplied information to relevant parties to push that message.
More than 90,000 students had responded to that information, and their applications would be given priority, Mrs Dean said.
More than 60,000 students have not applied for student loans or allowances yet and, with Studylink entering its busiest time of the year, applications can take up to eight weeks to finalise.
Studylink existed to help students and the sooner applications were in, the sooner student loans and allowances would be available, Mrs Dean said.
