Netsafe operations manager Lee Chisholm is spending three days in Oamaru this week, educating students, teachers, principals and parents on cyber safety.
On Tuesday evening at 7.30pm, she is hosting a Parent Information Evening at Waitaki Girls’ High School which is open to all of the North Otago community.
She will educating parents on how safe their child/teenager is online, current cyber safety issues, social networking trends and challenges and ways of dealing with cyber bullying.
Ms Chisholm is being hosted by Waitaki Girls’ High School and Oamaru Intermediate School, who both recognised a need for education in Waitaki.
“I think schools have a responsibility that they provide a safe environment for the children and this is all about that and educating the parents to support them,” Waitaki Girls’ High School assistant principal Glenn Potter said.
“There hasn’t been a single event that has triggered this, there’s just a need for the educational process to happen.”
