Student gains insight

Waitaki Girls’ High School student Jess Richards has much more of an insight into global issues, after attending the New Zealand Model United Nations conference.

Held from July 5-8, the Wellington conference was an opportunity for about 240 secondary school delegates to discuss world issues.

Jess represented Equatorial Guinea, in sub-Saharan Africa. Students debated topical issues based on the United Nations Millennium Development Goals, such as universal education, biodiversity loss and refugee repatriation, as well as hearing from “fascinating” guest speakers, and participating in workshops and activities.
