A leadership camp for Waitaki Girls’ High School’s new student leaders at Camp Iona last week taught students about what it takes to be a good leader, principal Tracy Walker says.
The school took 17 students to the camp to take part in team building exercises.
“It was really just about working out . . . a team dynamic,” she said.
After spending some time participating in those exercises, the girls spent time with the guidance councillor learning about communication skills and then took part in a goal-setting session, with some role-play of some difficult scenarios a student leader could face following, Ms Walker said.
“That was very positive, they found that really interesting.
“It was a really good day.”
The group finished up by making a mission statement describing what kind of leaders they wanted to be, she said.
“I’m sure they’re going to be really good leaders.”
