Waitaki Boys’ High School is set to offer Cambridge international examinations this year in a first for the school, rector Paul Jackson says.
Mr Jackson said he was “inundated with emails” from parents wanting their sons involved after he announced the school would offer the exams this year.
The exams were being offered to a class of 25 year nine boys, and would follow them throughout their time at high school until the exams covered all levels.
“We’re introducing Cambridge in mathematics, English and science,” he said.
“My goal here is to strive ahead towards excellence.”
The Cambridge international examinations offered a more focused curriculum which would help pupils excel, Mr Jackson said.
Pupils coming into the school were tested last year and those who would take part in the class were chosen.
Mr Jackson said he was “very proud” to bring the Cambridge exams to the school.
“We’re really going full steam ahead.”
