Waitaki Boys’ High School Commissioner Nicola Hornsey was not able to complete the Scoping Report and Action Plan yesterday, as expected.
In a letter addressed to staff and parents on Tuesday, Ms Hornsey stated that she would not have these completed because of the considerable number of people who wanted to share their thoughts on the school with her.
In order to finalise the Scoping Report and Action Plan by the end of next week she announced that she had closed off her research phase on Tuesday.
“This will enable me to concentrate on developing a plan to move the school forward and for the implementation of the plan to commence as soon as possible.”
Ms Hornsey, an employment law consultant, was appointed as commissioner by the Ministry of Education during a meeting in October in order to resolve serious issues at the school.
Over the last month, the commissioner has been completing the initial Scoping Phase which included reading through the school documentation before meeting with the rector and staff and inviting parents, caregivers and the wider community to talk to her.
