Residents saddened by tragedy

Regular Everest Indian Restaurant and Takeaway customer Rohana Sumith says he was deeply saddened to hear of the deaths of three family members in yesterday’s fire in Waimate.

“They were wonderful people. I had been going once a week on my days off for about a year to visit them at their restaurant.”

“I arrived in July from Sri Lanka to work on a dairy farm in Waihao and they were my first friends I made in Waimate, I just can’t take in what’s happened.”
