A bunch of hardy swimmers will seek to prove June is the best time for a dip in the ocean when they get wet on Sunday.
Port FM’s annual Mid Winter Swim is at Friendly Bay. Registrations start from 1pm, and the brave souls who take the plunge will walk/dive/shiver into the sea at 1.30pm.
Entrants were encouraged to dress up, a spokeswoman said.
Prizes will be dished out for best dressed, best group effort, oldest and youngest entrants, and other categories.
The event hopes to raise over $800 for the Oamaru Rowing Club from donations from generous local businesses and gold coin entry on the day.
Organisers are always impressed with the number of people willing to “chill out” at this time of year and are hopeful a bumper crowd will be there again on Sunday.
