WORK UNDER WAY: A digger operator works on the remains of the Colourview Printing building in Wear St yesterday.
Owner Steve McLeod decided to demolish the building because earthquake strengthening was taking too long. He intends to rebuild on the site.
The former building was constructed in 1940 and was made with Oamaru stone.
“It means we will have the building finished in about three and a-half months as opposed to the longer timeframe if we waited for earthquake strengthening; that’s the reason why the building is no longer here.”
Mr McLeod said the new building would also feature Oamaru stone and would be bigger than the previous building.
