Tourism operators and community groups have welcomes a further $935,000 being injected in to the development of the Alps 2 Ocean cycle trail, which will see the project completed.
Prime Minister John Key made the announcement at Friendly Bay, the end of the Alps 2 Ocean trail, during this visit to Oamaru on Friday.
The additional funding means the Government has now contributed $3.785 million to the trail, which extends more than 300km from Aoraki Mt Cook to Oamaru.
Local residents have raised about $955,000.
The Waitaki District Council, New Zealand Transport Agency, Whitestone Contracting, the Otago Community Trust and Trust Aoraki have also contributed large sums.
