Shortly before Rail Safety Week a North Otago man has “walked away without a scratch” after his vehicle was hit by a train in Hampden on Saturday.
A ute with a single male occupant collided with a southbound freight train travelling between Christchurch and Dunedin on the Lincoln St level crossing in Hampden at 9.36am on Saturday.
Southern Highway Patrol Sergeant Peter Muldrew said the Hampden man had been travelling home when he approached the crossing and slowed to look for oncoming trains.
