FULL OF INFORMATION: Pupils for all three Oamaru secondary schools, some of the emergency services crew and Danny Hartigan (front row third left) at a Drive to Survive Expo at the Waitaki Recreation Centre yesterday.
More than 260 year 12 pupils from St Kevin’s College, Waitaki Girls’ High School and Waitaki Boys’ High School attended the expo.
The expo was all about giving the pupils who will be new to driving an insight into the choices available and the consequences that can be made while driving.
Waitaki District Council road safety co-ordinator Elton Crane said it’s something they hold every year and the pupils this year were really interested in it.
There were three different workshops for the pupils, Modified vehicles, Physics of a Car Crash and You can make a difference, before all the pupils returned to hear about the Human Cost which included a talk from Dunedin man Danny Harticgan who experience a real life crash.
He talked about the consequences of the crash, the effects of it and losing a mate.
