Two people escaped uninjured after a car and truck crashed on Oamaru-Alma Rd yesterday afternoon.

Oamaru police Constable Neil Rushton said it appeared a car, with an elderly driver, had turned from Thousand Acre Rd into the path of an oncoming truck on Oamaru-Alma Rd at about 12.30pm.

The driver of the truck had to take evasive action causing the vehicle to leave the road and tip over, he said.

The sole occupants of each vehicle were both uninjured, however, the elderly driver was taken to Oamaru Hospital as a precaution.

The truck, which was carrying a full load of frozen meat, and the car were both extensively damaged.

Two fire appliances, four police cars and two ambulances attended the scene.
