SHORT AND SHARP: Vicky Bowmar hugs Mia O’Dowda, 3, away from the hail and rain which greeted North Otago at about 1.30pm yesterday.
A heavy thunderstorm was forecast to hit the region but only light rain fell early in the afternoon.
Mrs Bowmar said they were lucky that it struck while they were in town.
“A short time earlier we were at the beach so we’re lucky we decided to leave there in time.”
Waitaki District Council Emergency Management manager Jane Lodge said the storm blew over quickly, as expected.
“We aren’t expecting any more.”
