BLOOD MILESTONE: Oamaru resident Helen Bachari donated her 101st pint of blood yesterday after receiving a certificate and limited edition print from NZ Blood for passing the 100 pint mark.
Ms Bachari, who moved to Oamaru three years ago, said she had been donating blood since the early 1980s in Australia when her boss convinced her to go along.
After more than 30 years, it felt normal to be giving her 101st pint, although it did feel like a “real milestone”, she said.
“When you get to that hundred, it seems extra special.”
She would keep donating as long as she could so she could help out, Ms Bachari said.
“It’s a quick, painless way that you can help the community by sharing something that they need.”
The next blood-giving day will be held at the Oamaru Club on June 10 from 12.30pm – 6pm.
