Making history come alive

SEEING THE SIGHTS: Cashmere High School year 12 pupils, from Christchurch, had a fun time on the Oamaru Steam and Rail railcar yesterday.

While on the train they were taking in the sights of the historic buildings for their history lesson.

Cashmere High School teacher David Tuia said the trip to Oamaru is a big part of the schools year 12 history curriculum.

“We head to Dunedin for the trip and most of the study, but the pupils always want to stop in Oamaru to experience the train and to look into a bit more of the old buildings here as part of their History and Classics studies.”

The students also visited the Penguin Colony while they were in Oamaru.
