About 130 people gathered at Iona Rest Home and Hospital yesterday afternoon for the opening of their new dementia unit.
The Mackay Dementia Home, a Presbyterian Support Otago (PSO) home, was officially opened during a ceremony with speeches from manager Stephenie Leith, PSO board chairman David Richardson and Reverend Jill McDonald.
Waitaki Mayor Gary Kircher and his mother Margeret also untied a bow at the entrance to the unit.
