Oamaru residents have come out in force in support of local health services at a march against proposed cuts to Oamaru Hospital.
Yesterday’s rally, which made its way to Takaro Park from the site of the Oamaru Farmers’ Market, attracted about 2500 people with a large majority carrying signs or banners voicing their displeasure at the Southern District Health Board’s proposed funding cut of 5%, which was put forward in April.
The reduction in funding, close to $500,000, would have a severe impact on heath services in Waitaki.
